Terminology
Accupressure Massage- Accupressure massage therapy is an ancient form of healing massage that involves applying pressue to various points on the body in an effort to stimulate the movement or Qi or Chi.
Collagen- Collagen is a connective tissue and is the cement that holds everything together. Along with soft keratin, collagen is responsible for skin strength and elasticity. Collagen is the main structural component of the lower layer of skin (Dermis). Collagen is produced by cells called fibroblasts,which are scattered throughout the dermis.
Cosmeceutical- Cosmetic products with biologically active ingredients purporting to have medical or drug-like benefits.
Elastin- Is a protein in connective tissue that is elastic and allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. Elastin tends to deplete as people age, resulting in wrinkled or sagging skin.
Exfoliation- Involves the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface (Stratum Corneum), and has been used for many years to help maintain the skins youthful appearance. Exfoliation can be achieved through mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic means.
Facial- A facial will vary depending on the type of facial selected by the client or esthetician. However most include deep cleansing, exfoliation, nourishing mask, and some type of facial and neck massage.
Rei- In general terms, "Rei"means universal. however in Reiki, "Rei" is more accurately interpreted to mean higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness.
Ki- The word "Ki" means the same as Qi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit, and Ti in Hawaiian. Ki is life energy and is also known as the vital life force or universal life force. This is the non-physical energy that animates all living things.
